Henri Saivet is close to joining Turkish side Bursaspor after months of speculation linking him back to the SuperLig.
Rewind to the 11th of January 2016 when Newcastle were midway through the 2015/2016 season slipping more and more into relegation trouble. The club turned to recruit more men as the solution for survival and as part of the massive spending of £74,500,000 which still remains the most ambition Mike Ashley has shown to date: Henri Saivet was one of the recruits and signed a five-and-a-half year contract.
Unfortunately Henry Saivet and Newcastle never achieved their target of survival but Saivet never met any other targets set for him at Newcastle. 5 appearances in a black and white shirt and spending the entirety of the 16/17 season on loan to St-Etienne in Ligue 1 and the second half of the 17/18 season on loan to Turkish club Sivasspor; is the summary of this underwhelming chapter in Henri Saivet’s career.
A 24-time Senegal international, Saivet still has three years remaining on his contract with Newcastle, which is worth £35,000 a week.
Henri Saivet’s best moment in a black and white shirt was when he scored a sweetly struck free kick against West Ham United in a 3-2 win.
