Newcastle United travel 315.5 miles down the country to Cardiff for their first away game of the season. The magpies are on a three game win streak against the Bluebirds with the last victory coming in a 2-0 away win back in the 16/17 season.
Two years later Rafa Benitez and Neil Warnock face off again for the fifth time and if history tells us anything.. is that Rafa Benitez’s teams have enjoyed playing against a team set up by Neil Warnock.
The potential of our team if it finds chemistry quickly can create the formula of a tough team to break down if the defending and communication is on point. With the new attacking options added to the team, I feel confident in saying that we have enough firepower to cause Cardiff’s defense problems for the full 90 minutes and expect Newcastle to walk away with the 3 points.
Deandre Yedlin’s knee injury fortunately turned out to be not as bad as it first looked so he is back in training with the first team and could start against Cardiff. Javier Manquillo and U23’s player Jamie Sterry are potential replacements if Yedlin is not back to full fitness.
With both sides looking to get their first win of the season, this match looks to be a highly competitive one.
Cardiff were quite easily beaten against Bournemouth and a side with little to no PL experience can put teams at a disadvantage against the more experienced.
Newcastle were unlucky not to get a result against Spurs, the creativity from the wingers caused the Spurs defense problems but poor man marking when defending cost us the game. The new signings have now had more time to train together which means we can possibly see more of them on Saturday.
My money will be going on a 2-0 Newcastle United win (Joselu to score first)
- Neil Warnock has been sacked by three different Premier League clubs (Crystal Palace, QPR and Rotherham United.
- This will be the fifth meeting between the two coaches with Benitez holding the better record: 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss (9-2 aggregate).
- Cristian Atsu has scored 2 goals in his last 2 appearances against Cardiff City.
