Why is Yoshinori Muto not getting game time?

At the time Yoshinori Muto suffered his calf injury, Newcastle’s form was the best it’s been all season. Winning 1-0 against Watford and then going on a three game win streak, eventually losing to West Ham and drawing away to Everton.

The Japanese international had one month off to recover from injury which he spent most with his new born baby in Japan. Understandably that was an important time in his life so his football and his mentality would of temporarily changed from that time away.

Muto was deemed ready for the toons away trip to Everton:

Rafa on Muto’s fitness post Everton: “He went to Japan because of the new baby and the injury. He came back and we were winning, so he understands why he hasn’t been playing, but he’s a great worker and he has a chance of playing.”

So Muto’s chances were cut short due to the team’s good form and Rafa didn’t want to change what was working and working well.

Though he is fit and ready, In training Yoshi mustn’t be performing to the standard that Rafa deems good enough of starting in the weekend matches, hence why Ayoze is getting the nod.

If Muto is to establish his place in the first team then he will need to take any opportunity given against Huddersfield and Fulham as I’m sure Rafa can’t stress anymore to his players how important these two fixtures are to our season.

Rafa has heaped tons of praise onto Muto this season stating: “he has added a new dimension to Newcastle United’s attacks”

And Muto himself says about Newcastle: “The fans have been wonderful. I would like to get good results and help the club.

“This is a big challenge, but I feel like I can contribute to the club in some capacity”.

Would you give Muto the nod over Perez against Huddersfield or Fulham? Let me know your thoughts.
